I'll Miss You, Grandma Suzy

These are the only pictures of me and my Grandma Suzy. And there won't be any more. She passed away on December 2, 2010, at 3:17pm. I was there, and I like to think that gave her peace in her final hours.

Sure, it may seem odd to say that I'll miss someone I only knew for the first five months of my life. But I'll miss our special 1-on-1 theatre days, like she had every year with each of my cousins. I'll miss her famous apple pies that I never had the opportunity to taste.

I'll miss her contagious laughter and impromptu singing of show tunes. I'll miss joining her on spontaneous trips or just curling up in front of the fire with her and a book on a snowy Minnesota afternoon. I'll miss seeing the unique way she interacts with my dad and the way she makes my mother glow with confidence and pride. I'll miss her stories of London, Ireland, Australia, Bali, Tasmania, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Italy, Paris, Alaska, the Panama Canal, and all the other beautiful places dwarfed by her charismatic beauty.

She bought recordable books for me that she never had the chance to record. She had plans in the works for a special holiday gift for me that she never had the time to find. She was in the process of tracking down all of Dad's Golden Books, so that each of us could have a copy and read them together via online video chat. I'll miss all that and all the equally wonderful memories she had in the works for me.

I'll miss having her only a text, a call, or an e-mail away. I'll miss knowing that, no matter what is going on with her incredibly busy and fulfilling life, she'll always find time to not only think about me, but go out of her way to recognize, honor, and support me.

But most of all, I'll miss her fierce love, her extraordinary thoughtfulness, and her larger-than-life belief in me and all I can do.

Be with me always, Grandma Suzy. My mom and dad will tell me about you, but from what I hear, it will be a dim, longing glimmer in comparison to having you here with me.

I'll love you forever, without even knowing you. Because you are a part of me--one of the best parts--and that will never change.

I'm 4 Months Old!

These days I'm talking my little Szaba chatter, finally starting to nap (Mom is clapping for that one), coming to terms with tummy time, and occasionally laughing.

I’m a tough critic though—it takes a lot to make me give up the giggles. The great thing about that though? It makes Mom and Dad do a lot of silly stuff to try to impress me!

Szaba’s Halloween EXTRAVAGANZA

Me in a pumpkin! My first jack-o-lantern! Me as a baby Amelia Earhart!

Mom says it was the best Halloween ever. I’ve only experienced one, so I’ll take her word for it.

I Heart Art

What’s my idea of a lovely Friday night? A trip to the art museum, followed by cocktails and appetizers at the W! (Well, bottles for me, thanks.)

Last week we checked out the Picasso exhibit on loan at the Seattle Art Museum from Musée National Picasso, Paris. I was particularly fond of his blue period, most notably “La Celestina.” Dad was more of a “Man in a Straw Hat with Ice Cream Cone” and a “Dora Maar” fan. I can respect that.

Mom also got me a book to commemorate the trip, “Catch Picasso’s Rooster.” There’s a whole series of Touch the Art books—I highly recommend them!

Aunt Robin Rocks

This one goes out to my Aunt Robin.

Thanks for the cool shirt. My mom just changed over my clothes from 0-3 months to 3-6, so I finally get to wear it!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm due for a jam session back at the crib. Peace.

Grand Weekend with the Hyllands

This past weekend my Grandpa Larry, Grandma Kristin, and Uncle Matt came to visit me from North Carolina!

We soaked up the fall sun, enjoyed a scenic sunset dinner at Palisade, and spent a day at the pumpkin patch.

Here are all the pictures from our fun times:

My Buddy

Hi, Noa.
Nice to meet you.
My name's Szaba.

Our moms are friends.
Do you want to be, too?

I think this could be the start of a beautiful friendship.

Baby 007

I got my passport photo taken this morning. What do you think? I went with the purple argyle sweater. It says, "I'm serious, but with a sweet, playful side."

Soon I'll be all set for a life of international intrigue!

Two-fer Tuesday!

The past two days have been all about my hands, particularly trying to shove my whole fist in my mouth and wrangle those thumbs so I can suck on them to my heart's content.

He's a video from last week of me admiring those fantastic fingers. And once my mom catches a thumb-sucking attempt on camera, she'll post that, too. It's pretty amusing stuff.

Speaking of style, check out this video of me looking cute in my peacock outfit. Though it's a couple weeks old, it's still an oldie but goodie. (Since I'm not even 90 DAYS old yet, 2-week-old videos can be considered "oldies.")

And wait until you see my PJs. They're a hoot.

The Big 2 (Months)

Yep, I'm 2 months old. Really getting up there.

I can smile at my funny parents, grab my toys, keep an eye on Pavlov, roll over, and make little noises (besides crying, burping, and farting, of course).

Rock-a-Bye Baby

Happy Friday! I'm chillin' in my swing. I've always liked it for sleeping, but recently discovered it's pretty entertaining, too.

Take the face of the baby girl in the mirror, for instance. She copies everything I do. Fascinating. And then there's that silly giraffe. He really cracks me up.

Toys That Jingle Jangle Jingle

I'm feeling a little yucky today, due to my vaccinations yesterday. But Mom's taking good care of me, and I have my favorite blue bunny toy to cheer me up.

Know what else cheers me up? This video of me playing with a toy I got from my Uncle ShiKai and Aunt Laurel. I posted it before, but it had some sort of silly error, so I'm posting it again.

Tot Shots

I had my 2-month doctor's visit this evening. And you know what that means: SHOTS. Not just for me neither. Mom and Dad had to get flu shots, too.

Surprisingly, I'm in great spirits. Apparently nothing can keep these legs and arms from moving and this face from smiling!

And by the way, I'm 2+ feet long now. But my parents are short. What's up with that? Guess I'll be the one fetching stuff from the top cupboards...

Follow Me

What kind of a baby would I be without having a blog? Not a very nerdy one, I'll tell you that much. And if you know my parents, you know that's not likely.

So here I go. I'm starting my own blog!

Want to see videos of me and keep up to date on the fun I've been up to? Just add yourself as a "follower." I'm not exactly sure how this all works, but I think you'll get updates whenever I add something new (and undoubtedly cute) here.

I've already added a bunch of videos of me playing with some of my toys for the first time. My mom loves them, and she tells me you will, too.

The Amazing Zebra Blanket

Uncle Ramsey and Aunt Jen down in San Francisco gave me a really trippy zebra blanket. I love to look at it and swing wildly to swipe my hand across its soft texture when I'm lying in my crib. My sister Pavlov stands guard while I check it out.

Play Firsts: Rattles on Hands

Now that crazy duck and cuckcoo cow are on my hands. What is my silly mom going to think of next?

Play Firsts: Rattles on Feet

Check it out ... I have rattles on my FEET! Wait, what? I have feet, too? Sweet.
